Although email validation is a crucial step in ensuring the legitimacy of your subscriber list, it is not without its limitations. Specifically, when dealing with popular providers like Yahoo, Verizon, and AOL, you may encounter email bounces even after successful validation.
Why are emails bouncing even after successful validation?
Yahoo emails, for instance, bounce due to Yahoo’s policy of disabling and deleting accounts that haven’t been used in more than a year.
During this time, the server may still respond with a validation of the email address, giving the impression that it is active. However, users with disabled inboxes cannot receive emails.
Yahoo then makes those accounts available again for people to claim.
Without explicit information about the inactive state, validators can't differentiate between a genuinely active but rarely used account and one that's temporarily disabled.
What can be done to reduce the bounce rate?
Regularly validate your email list and remove subscribers who seldom or never engage with your emails. This proactive approach not only reduces bounces but also protects your sender's reputation.
